In-person French lessons for toddlers and young children are back in White Plains!

You live near White Plains and you're looking for French classes for your child? Look no further! Our brand new offices are opening this April and we will be offering in-person French lessons at 280 Dobbs Ferry Road, Suite 302 from June 1 onward. If you would like your child to grow up bilingual, contact our team to find out more about our teaching philosophy!

French lessons for toddlers

Have you always wanted to raise your child in a bilingual environment? In this case, learning French from a young age is the best way to make sure your child will develop language skills similar to those of a child growing up in a Francophone country. Young children have a better ability to mimic sounds they hear, so gaining exposure to another language before the age of 6 is best if you would like your child to speak French with confidence and with a natural pronunciation. For children who are 6 and older, other programs will then be available depending on their age and depending on the learning goals which are most important to you.

For young children and toddlers, Alliance Française of Westchester is organising French immersion lessons throughout the school year, starting from one hour per week, for a total of 30 lessons.

Our pedagogy is based on providing a fully immersive learning environment adapted to children and their developmental needs, so at this stage lessons primarily involve songs, toys, games, stories, and repetition of key words and expressions which will help your child discover the joy of speaking a new language. Teachers also focus on making sure children can learn and understand basic instructions, and learn to build positive relationships with their peers. If your family is already bilingual, your child will be matched with other children of a similar level and our teacher will focus more on an active acquisition of language, boosting your child's confidence in speaking French and providing a safe learning environment to help him or her embrace a multi-cultural identity. An informal interview will be arranged before the first day of class in order for our team to assess your child's level, as well as to gain a better understanding of goals which are most important to you.

When are lessons taking place?

Lessons scheduled during our late Spring term will start from June 1, 2022 onward, and will finish no later than June 24, 2022 (contact us for more details) . Our school year is organized following 3 terms of 10 lessons each, starting in September, January and March or April, depending on classes. However, this package is for 4 lessons only.

During the Summer, we also organize Summer camps for toddlers, so they can learn French in immersion following a more intensive pace.

Children will be grouped by ages as well as depending on their current level. Because of this, your child may not be able to join classes taking place on a different day. Please contact our team for more information. Groups need a minimum of 3 students for the schedule to be confirmed.

Groups currently available in White Plains:

  • Children from 3 to 5 years old - Beginner and False Beginner level - Wednesdays from 3:15pm to 4:15pm
  • Children from 3 to 5 years old - Intermediate level - Thursday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm

This package does not include AFW membership fees, nor does it include the price of access to our virtual classrooms, textbooks and exercise books. Depending on children's age and level, the price of textbooks and/or exercise books used in your class may vary. A valid AFW membership as well as a valid access to our virtual classrooms is required for all AFW students. For more information about our memberships, please check this page.

As non-native French speakers, my husband and I send our children to the AFW so they can immerse themselves in the French language and culture. We also realize the importance of mastering a second language in today’s world. It’s amazing to see how their proficiency in the language has grown and most importantly, their genuine love and interest in French.

I believe the online platform works really well, and I am excited to see that online courses will be offered in the summer. In terms of the spring online semester, my daughter Anna has been extremely engaged, the lessons have been impactful, and she has truly been enjoying the interaction. Thank you for all that you do with the class!
